Favorite Books about Color for kids

We read these colorful books at least once a week in our house. Not only do they teach children colors, they also have great messages about empathy, kindness, and courage!

Ages 2-6

Little Blue and Little Yellow and Mouse Paint are classic, simple, quick reads with clear images that little ones can never get enough of.

Ages 3-8

Mix it Up : After you’ve read this with your pre-reader child a few times, they will love to go through the book over and over again both with you and on their own.

Mixed, Ava and the Rainbow, How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow and Red are great for a group or class read aloud as well as bedtime with your child.

For the little artist or color lover:

My one year old son loves The Crayons’ Book of Colors board book and my three year old daughter loves to look on and point out the colors to him.

Bonus info : Does your child’s classroom or your classroom have a Scholastic Books account? Red: A Crayon’s Story and Mixed: A Colorful Story are available for purchase through it.

And just because I can never pass up sharing a great art connection, here are some contemporary artists who are sure to inspire you, your kids, or students:
